Newly-crowned MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo has stated he deserves the crown he bagged at Valencia this afternoon, saying that he took more wins, poles, fastest laps and led more laps than team-mate Valentino Rossi.
And his In his post-race media conference Lorenzo was defiant about his achievements this year, adding that he didn’t believe he had any help from the Repsol Honda pairing of Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa in Spain.
“I believe that I clearly deserve this world title,” he said. “Compared to our rival (Rossi) we have more victories, poles, laps led, fastest laps - everything. We arrived here seven points behind and faced very high pressure, but today I was very fast. I just have to trust what Marc and Dani say.
“My speed and my performance was demonstrated clearly, so I hope everyone accepts the final result of the championship. Always there will be people who support another rider, in this case Valentino. They will never be happy. But I deserved this championship.”
Asked if the entire fracas between Rossi and Marquez was a shame for motorcycle racing, Lorenzo said: “It is a polemic of the press, who are making inventions that are not true. These things can’t sour my performance. Valentino is making a lot of noise, but the people who are making these things don’t change my life, my happiness and my world.”
