Sky Racing VR46 rider Luca Marini claimed his second pole position of 2018 after a dominant performance in qualifying, beating out Dynavolt duo Xavi Vierge and Marcel Schrotter.
Moving fastest early in the session, Marini was sat comfortabtly at the top of the timing sheets for a large portion of the session, however, with just eight minutes remaining.
Just when the German thought his long awaited search for a pole position could be over, Marini on the very next lap went back faster, 0.168 seconds faster than Schrotter's lap.
A late lap from Vierge was just 0.027 seconds off pole, knocking Schrotter back to the outside of the front row.
2018 Moto2 World Champion Pecco Bagnaia will start from fourth position, a quarter of a second off the front row, with Lorenzo Baldassarri and Sam Lowes joining the World Champion on the second row.
Joan Mir will start his final Moto2 race from seventh place, before his move to Suzuki with Augusto Fernandez and fellow Moto2 graduate Fabio Quartararo joining the Spaniard on the third row, starting in eighth and ninth respectively.
