MotoGP Valencia: Smith to get factory YZR-M1 for 2016 season

Britain’s Bradley Smith will get a full works machinery for the 2016 MotoGP season when, on Sunday night at Valencia, the Yamaha YZR-M1 factory bikes of Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi will be wheeled out the manufacturer’s pitbox and parked in the garage of the Monster Tech satellite team.

Then on Tuesday morning Britain’s top motorcycle racer, Bradley Smith, will straddle one of the machines and find out what his 2016 ride will be like, as he heads out for tests on the 2.489-mile Ricardo Tormo circuit.

“Everything from the Yamaha garage will be brought to our garage,” Tech 3 chief Herve Poncharal told BSN at the track. “We are getting the end-of-season 2015 spec bikes. We will always be one step behind the factory bikes, but this means that we will be closer to them than this year.”

Tech 3 are celebrating a phenomenal year in MotoGP, with Smith holding sixth place in the points table, the best of all the non-factory riders, and his team-mate Pol Espargaro in tenth place.

It’s not only the kit that will be better at Tech 3. “Bradley himself is still improving his potential, and there is more to come from him as well,” Poncharal promises.
