Newly-crowned MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez has said taking the title today in Valencia and becoming the youngest ever premier class king at the age of 20 is a dream come true - and it came much earlier than expected.
Freddie Spencer was previously the youngest champion and Marquez also equals Kenny Roberts' record of winning the title in his rookie season.
"The dream comes true and early than what I expect. Now I enjoy the moment and later we will have time to think about other season, the next season," said Marquez, speaking at Valencia.
"The season was quite interesting, a couple of moments in many circuits were high points. We learn about it and in this second part we were more clever, still too much crashes but a little bit less but anyway, we are very happy and maybe the key was Honda helped me a lot, my team helped me and especially Emilio (Alzamora) and my family.
"The biggest surprise in this first season was the title and the BMW for the poles! Jorge won two more races than us but it's not the most important. Also, in the ranking of crashes we are there at the top so we have many moment, but we learn and we hope to improve next year."
Marquez doesn't think he will run the number one next year but keep 93 and have a small 1 in the decal somewhere out of respect for Honda.
