MotoGP Valencia: Vinales fires broadside at Yamaha 'mistakes'

Maverick Vinales has fired a broadside at Yamaha management over ‘mistakes’ he believes have cost him a shot at two titles.

Vinales has suffered this weekend as illegal engines will see him have to start from pitlane today Yamaha engineers.

“You can imagine the feeling we have, that every year we are throwing away the opportunity to win the title by mistakes,” said Vinales, speaking at the track.

“Probably that in Jerez they understand the problem after we closed the third engine. That was the biggest problem, because if not still I’d have had four engines, so one more new.

So, our plan was to put one new engine in for race one, and then I run out of engines.

“From Aragon I’m running out of engines, so we were managing the best we could and in the second race I only had one engine with a lot of mileage, so we just did little laps.”

Vinales believes that this year - with the absense of Marc Marquez - was the best opportunity to win the MotoGP but errors have taken it away.

“We have to be clear that Marc is not here, so was a really good opportunity. Honda and Marc are in another level and they show by the year.

“So, for sure it was a perfect situation to win the title. But we have lost 2017 and 2020 by the same mistakes.”
