Qatar MotoGP test: Redding happy as he closes on Crutchlow

Even though Britain’s Scott Redding slipped down the Qatar MotoGP test time rankings yesterday he managed to improve his laptime and made up some ground on the second satellite RC213V ridden by Cal Crutchlow.

Redding ended the second day on a 1’55.803 compared to a 1’56.112 and got his gap to the fellow Brit, and the other works Hondas, down by a couple of tenths as Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso upped the overall pace.    

“We made another step forward today and we’re a little bit closer to the front runners; not the Ducatis, but certainly to the other Hondas. This was our target, to bring the gap down, so I’m pretty happy with that,” said Redding.

“We also did a longer run today; we don’t quite have the lap time to do a blistering race pace just yet, but we did get to check a couple of things, like tyre endurance, riding style and fuel consumption.

“The long run was done on the softer option tyre and, now we’re going a bit faster, the tyre is starting to work better for me. Overall it’s been another productive day.”
