Gresini Racing's Gino Rea says he has a lot of work to do before his Moto2 debut at Qatar next month and the three-day test at Jerez has highlighted he needs to do a lot more setup work with the Showa suspension.
The young Londoner finished day three in 25th place and some 1.6s off the pace. An 'unavoidable' collision with Marc Marquez, who was touring on the circuit, didn't help matters as Rea's bike had to be completely re-built as a result.
“It goes without saying that we are behind at the moment and the gap to the top guys is too big. Unfortunately we have struggled to find the right set-up or even the right path towards it so we have work to do. We have done a lot with the Showa suspension but we still need to do a lot more. The collision with Marquez compromised the end of the test because the bike needed completely rebuilding," he said.
