2021 British Talent Cup Champion Casey O’Gorman heads to the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup for 2022.
O’Gorman claimed the 2021 title in certain style, with a double victory at Donington Park. Despite missing three rounds due to injury after his Knockhill practice crash, the 14-year-old took eight wins and three second places in what was otherwise a dominant season.
Dorna’s ‘Road to MotoGP’ provides the opportunity for certain entrants from the BTC and subsequent offshoots, to progress, however, the expected FIM Moto3 Junior World Championship promotion is no longer a guarantee.
From 2021 onwards the decision on who, and where the promotees will land will be at the discretion of Dorna and MSVR, with the Hawkers European Talent Cup, Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup or the FIM CEV Repsol hosted Moto3 Junior World Championship the opportunities now on offer.
The path has proved successful for some, with 2019 BTC Champion Scott Ogden looking to line-up full-time in the Moto3 World Championship alongside fellow BTC rival Josh Whatley as part of Michael Laverty’s new VisionTrack Honda squad for 2022. Tom Booth Amos also enjoyed two years in Moto3 before his move to the WorldSSP300 class - which saw him claim second in the championship at Portimao last weekend.
