Britain's 125GP star Scott Redding has made the shortlist for this year's BBC Young Sports Personality of the year but faces some stiff competition from Olympians and a tennis player.
Redding, who dramatically won the British GP at Donington Park in only his eighth race in the 125cc top flight, is up against, among, others Junior Wimbledon winner Laura Robson and Eleanor Simmonds, who took two golds at the Paralympics in Beijing
"I've been involved since the award's inaugural year in 2001," said judging panel chairman and presenter John Inverdale. "This year we've got the highest quality of contenders across the board I've ever known, in my opinion.
"You are looking at people at the top of their trees, and we have left a lot of strong nominations out of the top 10 and we will now have to leave seven out."
The programme will be broadcast on Sunday, December 14 live on BBC One, Radio 5 and the BBC Sport website.
