British Moto2 star Sam Lowes has been getting rid of the winter rust by lapping at the Spanish Monteblanco circuit on an almost-standard Yamaha YZF-R6 working on consistency rather than outright laptimes.
The Derby-based rider, who remains with the Speed Up team for 2015, completed hundreds of miles over the two days and was pleased with what he managed to achieve, including no big errors.
“174 laps, no crashes or run offs, it’s a personal record! It’s been a really good two days on Moto2 tyres. The biggest thing last year apart from learning the tracks was I couldn’t get my head around the tyres enough. I have done 174 laps and used four rears and three fronts,” said Lowes, speaking at bikesportnews.com at Monteblanco.
“It’s just about putting laps in. This has been good just to get in some riding and getting some consistency. Moto2 is so tight, it’s not just about a laptime, it’s about getting that laptime every single lap.
“I did two race runs today of 28 laps and I did almost identical 48 minute times. It’s good because I haven’t ridden since Valencia and to do that straight away is really pleasing.
“I’ve got a WP shock on the bike as we are using their stuff this year. We will have our own technician in the garage this year.”
