San Marino MotoE, Misano Race 2 | Spinelli holds steady for maiden MotoE win in finale

Nicholas Spinelli signed off on his maiden season in the MotoE World Championship by prevailing in a mighty three-way scrap to claim victory in the final race of the weekend at Misano.

The Italian claimed the spoils after timing his attack to the flag to perfection over a final lap that at times saw both Hector Garzo and new MotoE World Champion Mattia Casadei also take turns in leading.

indeed, the trio had embarked on a race-long tussle, one initially led by Casadei as he attempted to bring his crowning season to a fitting conclusion. However, he was eventually overhauled by Pons Racing team-mate Spinelli, who dragged an opportunistic Garzo through with him.

The pair broke away to come into the final lap with little to choose between them, only for their scrap to invite Casadei back into the battle too.

However, it was Spinelli that would take his opportunity with a slick move through the fast Curvone section, the Italian proceeding to keep Garzo at bay over the remainder of the lap to take the flag and become the season's eighth different race winner.

Garzo settled for second in the race and thus fourth in the overall standings, the IntactGP rider falling just two and one point shy of overhauling Jordi Torres or Matteo Ferrari for second and/or third respectively in the overall standings.

New champion Casadei notched up his tenth podium of the season in third, the Italian's run of seven consecutive visits to the rostrum during the second-half of the year having laid the foundation for an surprise title charge.

Double MotoE World Cup Champion Torres finished the season with a run to fourth, in doing so overhauling Ferrari for the runners-up spot in the final standings, ahead of Andrea Mantovani and Kevin Zannoni.
