Gresini Racing's Gino Rea will make his home Moto2 debut at the Silverstone MotoGP round this weekend and is looking forward to racing at a track he doesn't have to learn.
So far this year, the Londoner has had to spend a lot of Fridays just figuring out which way to turn but the Northamptonshire circuit is one he knows well and at which. has a history of good results. He will also be hoping not to be nerfed off by an errant rider for third race in succession.
"In Catalunya we had more bad luck. I was taken out by another rider's crash at turn one after I had made a good start. We really needed the track time in the race to get more feedback on the new forks and unfortunately I was unable to restart the race. I am really excited for Silverstone. Of course we never know what the weather will do in England but I'd like to have some dry time to develop our bike and get it working how I want," said Rea.
"It will be great to compete in my first home GP with support from the British fans! Silverstone is a circuit I like and it's the first circuit this year that I have raced at before, I scored my first podium position in World Supersport there. It will be good to be able to push the bike hard in the first session instead of having to learn the circuit first, then we can get the development with the bike underway from the start of the weekend. I hope all of the bad luck is out of the way now, I can't wait to get to the circuit."
