Silverstone has retained the rights to host the British MotoGP round in 2018 in a one-year deal that will be announced on Wednesday.

The Northamptonshire track has been running the event on behalf of the now-defunct Circuit of Wales project and was in competition with Donington Park to take over the show for next year.

It is believed that is was a close-run thing with Donington but Dorna officials were concerned the circuit infrastructure could not be brought up to spec in time for the
