British 125GP star Bradley Smith has signed to ride for the biggest team in the MotoGP paddock outside of the premier class squads themselves.
Aspar Aprilia have taken Smith on a two-year deal which will see him on a factory bike in 2009 with the option of moving up a class the year after.
Smith wanted to remain with his Polaris World team but the main backers are a Spanish-based property firm which withdrew its sponsorship due the credit crunch.
"I’ve signed a deal to continue riding in the 125cc class next season with an option to ride for them in the 250cc class the year after," said the teenager.
"It’s great to be sorted out already although I’m sad that my Polaris World team will not be running next season because of the economic situation. I would love to give them a Grand Prix win before the end of the season."
