Honda will be without Somkiat Chantra at the French Grand Prix, as he recovers from arm pump surgery.

After undergoing arm pump surgery after the Spanish Grand Prix, Somkiat Chantra will be on the sidelines for the French Grand Prix.

The Thai rider needs more time to recover from the procedure, which took place on the 30th of April.

A statement from LCR Honda read: "IDEMITSU Honda LCR rider Somkiat Chantra will not take part in the Grand Prix of France as he continues his recovery following arm pump surgery, which took place on April 30th.

"After a post-surgery check-up, Dr. Xavier Mir, who carried out the procedure, recommended allowing more time for Somkiat to regain full strength before returning to competition. While his rehabilitation is progressing well, he is not yet in suitable condition to race.

"The team fully supports Somkiat’s recovery process and looks forward to welcoming him back on track soon."

Chantra's decision to undergo surgery was made after he was forced to retire from the Spanish Grand Prix after 14 laps due to pain.

Honda was due to have five riders lineup on the grid for the French Grand Prix as former LCR Honda rider, Takaaki Nakagami, will be wildcarding for Honda's Test and Development team.

Chantra's difficult start to life in MotoGP:

The 26-year-old made history at the start of the 2025 season as he became the first Thai rider to race in the premier class of Grand Prix racing.

However, after five Grand Prix weekends, it has not been happy hunting for Chantra or the LCR Honda IDEMITSU squad.

Chantra has not scored a point so far in the 2025 MotoGP World Championship and sits 23rd in the standings, last out of all the full-time riders.

His best Grand Prix result came at the Grand Prix of the Americas when he finished 16th at the Circuit of the Americas. Otherwise, he has finished 18th at the Thai, Argentine, and Qatar Grand Prix.
