Ten points for Kent to win Moto3 title at Sepang

Britain’s Danny Kent needs just ten points from the penultimate Moto3 race at this weekend’s Sepang MotoGP round in order to lift the 2015 crown.

Kent was on course to pick up the trophy at Phillip Island until he was first pushed on to the grass by Franco Bagnaia and then nerfed off completely by Nico Antonelli and didn’t scored.

Race winner Miguel Oliveira picked up the win and reduced Kent’s deficit to 40 points so he needs to bag at least a sixth-placed finish to ensure that if Oliveira wins again in Malaysia, Kent has a 25-point margin going into the last round.

“Honestly speaking, I’m a little bit disappointed about the outcome of the weekend because I felt really strong on the bike during every session and also in the race today. I felt very confident that we could have left the island as champions,” said Kent.

“I was racing in the leading group and it was really easy to stay with them but one time in breaking zone for the hairpin I was hit by another rider, which was the first time to push me wide and I dropped back many positions. But I was able to recover quickly as I found myself in sixth position just two laps later. Then I was hit again, which took me out of the race.

“So now Enea Bastianini is out of the title run but we need to pay all attention to Miguel Oliveira who lies 40 points behind us. We need to keep working hard in the last two races, starting fully focussed next week in Malaysia.”
