'The bike is different and my approach is not correct' - Bastianini continues to struggle to adapt to the KTM

Gold & Goose

Enea Bastianini is entering an 'important period' after a difficult preseason with the Red Bull KTM Tech3 squad.

A lot of the talk from the 2025 MotoGP preseason has been about how well riders have adapted to their new teams and bikes. However, there are still riders who are struggling such as Enea Bastianini.

The Italian rider has switched from a Ducati GP24 to a KTM RC16 for the 2025 season as he has joined the Red Bull KTM Tech3 squad. But after six days of testing, Bastianini has still not completed his adaptation to his new machine.

He ended the final day of testing in Buriram in 15th place with a 1:29.837 lap time to his name. When compared to the rider who took his factory Ducati ride, Marc Marquez, Bastianini was roughly one second slower.

“Overall, I’m a bit happier than [Wednesday], because this afternoon I improved a bit my lap time,” Bastianini said after the final day of MotoGP preseason testing in Buriram.

“About my pace, I’m not very happy at the moment because I committed many mistakes during my laps – sometimes I can’t brake hard, sometimes yes, and at the moment I don’t know very well the situation.

“For the race we have to do something more, to understand better.

“Now, it’s important this period [between the test and the race] to study better the data and to learn, because the bike is different and my approach at the moment is not correct.”
