"Today was not my day" - Marc Marquez

Gold and Goose

Marc Marquez reflected on what could have been at the Austrian Grand Prix after technical issues hampered his Grand Prix.

After a weekend of consistent pace and fast lap times, Marc Marquez has left Austria with a feeling of what could have been.

Marquez put his Gresini Ducati on the front row of the grid in Qualifying and was determined to battle with Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia.

However, in the Sprint Race Marquez made a mistake whilst trying to stick with Bagnaia and crashed out of second place. After the Sprint he accepted his mistake and said that he was going to 'target third place'.

The main race did not go any smoother for the eight-time Champion. Marquez had an issue with his front tyre before he had even left the garage. After he had received a new tyre the #93 suffered issues with his Ride Height Device and could not get it engaged on the starting grid.

After starting without a Ride Height Device Marquez slipped back into the pack and collided with Morbidelli. At the exit of the first corner Marquez had found himself in 14th, but made his way back up to fourth during the race.

After the Grand Prix on Sunday Marquez explained his weekend and what could have been.

"Today is not the day," Marquez stated. "It is a shame because the feeling all weekend was sweet, it was really good. I enjoyed the bike and I was fast in all the sessions and every lap.

"But I made mistakes in the Sprint and the main Race. Yesterday the speed was there, today again the speed was there, and we learned from the mistake from yesterday. We had a technical problem before the race, the team fixed it, but the Ride Height Device did not engage. So I started the race with less performance.

"At the first corner, I was in the middle of the group so I said 'Let's be calm and see how we exit the first corner'. There was big contact with Morbidelli and we both went out of the race track. From there I started my comeback and I arrived in fourth position."

Marquez was then asked does he expects his day to come soon, perhaps even at the next round in Aragon.

"Maybe, but I know if I want to fight with the top guys I need to have a perfect weekend. If I have a perfect weekend then I have a chance. But my target is to just be on the podium, and we will try again in Aragon."
