Bosses at the Red Bull Ring have installed a new chicane between turns one and three ahead of this year’s MotoGP.
It is designed to prevent the type of crash we saw at the Austrian track in 2020 but looks like it will cause more incidents than it stops - especially if someone misses their brake marker for the first right or loses the front in the wet…
“Reduced speed was needed in MotoGP in this section of the track. This was achieved through the compact right-left combination which refrains from impacting the rest of the track. The planning was a real challenge due to the topography of the terrain, above all,” said designer Hermann Tilke.
According to documents, this was the 15th design draft submitted.
