Video: Stoner on track in his Aussie V8

TWO-time MotoGP champion Casey Stoner’s transition to four wheels has been an early success, the V8 Supercars rookie finishing an impressive ninth from 30 drivers in his first ever Dunlop Series practice session in Adelaide.

The 27-year-old Red Bull Racing Australia driver, who had driven a V8 Supercar around a full track just twice before this morning, made an impressive start to the session, which was red-flagged before anyone had a chance to post a lap time.

And it didn’t take long for him to get on pace, recording a best time of 1.24.89 and out-pacing a plethora of drivers with top tier V8 Supercars experience.

“It was a very good run out of the box,” team owner Roland Dane said. “He was just 1.2 seconds off the quickest guys out there and he has never been to the circuit before or raced within the confines of walls and the track was very green. We’re pretty happy with that. He finished top-10 with plenty of experienced guys all around him and behind him. So he is in the thick of the action. He didn’t touch anything, he didn’t hit anything. He did a great job first run out and I’m sure he’ll be more relaxed now.”
