Movistar Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales has admitted he and his team got lost with setup at the Qatar test and lost a day and a half ploughing a furrow in the wrong direction, leaving him unable to push and set a decent lap time.
When the situation was reversed, the Spaniard was able to shoot back up the sheets to fifth place on day three but it means there is a lot of room for improvement with the 2018 YZ-M1.
“In this test we took the opposite direction to the correct one, and it was really difficult because I couldn’t push or get the best out of myself,” said Vinales, speaking in Qatar.
“The bike has a set-up, you have to adapt to that and extract 100 percent from it. We modified the bike because I felt like we lost a day and a half. I’m not riding at 100 per cent. We got lost and I could not push. It means I have room for improvement and especially the bike has room for improvement. We are far from the level we can reach.”
