Rockstar Suzuki's Ben Spies has taken pole position in today's AMA Superbikefinal qualifying at Road Atlanta with team-mates Mat Mladin and Tommy Hayden second and third.
However, Mladin didn't attend the post-session press conference because he doesn't yet know whether his, or Hayden's GSX-R1000s, are legal to race (click here for story).
It's also believed that Spies' crew chief has taken the Yoshimura crank out of the GSX-R1000 and had a stock one from a roadbike installed to ensure it's legal. So, will Spies' old crank, plus the one he used at VIR last time out, now be inspected to see if it, too, is illegal?
Spies said: "My bike has been good all year. It's a mess what's going on and I'm not getting involved with that. I don't know what's going on but it's a definite mess. It's not up to me so I can't speak for anybody on it."
Britain's Neil Hodgson put his Honda Fireblade on the outside of the second row, but was more than two seconds slower than the poleman.
