Honda TT Legends star Simon Andrews underwent emergency surgery on his legs and lungs following a four-bike crash at the Le Mans 24-Hour on Saturday. He is off the critical list and in pain but cracking jokes, according to his father Stuart.
The Evesham rider remains in hospital but has been brought out of an induced coma after further examinations were carried out. He was also taken off his ventilator at 6pm this evening and is breathing on his own.
Andrews broke both legs, a ankle, a shoulder and forearm in the crash. He also damaged four lower vertebrae, broke five ribs and punctured a lung, which has been re-inflated and medics are also concerned with his kidneys. There has so far been no explanation for the accident.
