Honda Legends star Simon Andrews said his debut Macau Grand Prix podium has set him up well for a full winter's training and a great start to the 2013 season where he will be back on the roads and in world endurance.
Andrews is now almost fully recovered from the Isle of Man TT crash that nearly killed him and just has some rotational fitness to get back into his arm before he is 100 per cent back to what he perceives to be normality.
"I was pleased with the podium at Macau. I thought the bike could be enough for fourth but to take second and then finish in third made us all happy," said Andrews, speaking to bikesportnews.com while using a neighbour's dog as a dishcloth.
"In fact, I was in as much shock as everyone else! My arm was pretty good, no issues really. I got tired towards the end of the race. The strength is there, but I don't have the endurance in it yet, but that will come over winter and we will be back with a bang.
"Raceday I felt mint after having a bit of plane flu leading up to it, then I just got on with it. With it being ten laps instead of 15, I pushed from the word go because we knew the tyres might struggle at the end. So, yes, pleased.
'Big thanks to M10 Fitness, Isla Scott, Ice Valley and Honda for allowing me to go and ride in the first place."
