Yamaha Phase One Endurance have finished in fifth place at the Bol d’Or 24 Hour round of the Endurance FIM World Championship at Magny Cours, France.

The incident-packed race ended with a tense final hour battle between fourth place Team Kawasaki France, Phase One and eventual sixth placed finishers Yamaha GMT94.

Team manager Russell Benney was pleased with the result: “I’m delighted with fifth place. It’s very useful to us in terms of the championship, and it builds nicely on the last two rounds.

“A great points scoring results but, oh, it could have been so much better. There were a few little glitches that prevented us from being third; A little off by Graeme Gowland in the middle of the night meant two or three minutes of repairs, we had some tyres that wouldn’t come up to temperature that cost us two or three minutes, and a broken magnet in a caliper that cost us another couple of minutes early in the race. We think we would have been five laps better off, which would have put us on the rostrum, but that’s an “if only” story.

“We can go to Qatar aiming for a finish to the season that’s commensurate with the team’s abilities, rather than the disasterous start to the year that we had. We’re ready to get on the rostrum at Qatar and finish the season on a real high.”

Race winners SERT Suzuki have claimed their fourth world endurance championship in a row. The final round of the championship is the Qatar 8 Hour in November.
