The fate of the Circuit of Wales has been postponed for another week, because of objections from local environmental groups.
In light of recent objections to the original planning proposal Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council have decided that a decision could be made in seven days time. Unlike the majority of planning decisions that are made by the Council's Planning department, the future of the Circuit of Wales will be decided by the full Council, due to the significance of the project.
The proposed plans include a three and a half mile circuit, designed to host MotoGP, World Superbikes, World Touring car and World Motocross events. There are also plans to include a technology park, international karting track and a motorsport academy. In addition it is estimated that the total cost of the project will be £250 million and will cover 830 acres in Ebbw Vale, South Wales.
"The decision has been put back for another week, because of objectives from environmental organisations. So hopefully this time next week we will have a decision on the Circuit of Wales," said Chris Herring, consultant at the Heads of the Valley Development Company.
"The environmental organisations recognise the benefit that the development of jobs will have to the local area, but the organisations just want provisions to be made for the animals that live in the surrounding area, so the council have postponed the decision on the Circuit of Wales for now."
But some organisations believe that a decision will be pushed back again, and are looking at dates around July 10th for a final announcement on the proposed circuit to be made.
