Donington Park World Endurance round is cancelled

Donington Park's scheduled running of a World Endurance Championship round has been cancelled as the circuit had planned too many events for the noise restrictions which are put in place around the track by the local authority.

Circuit bosses were forced to make a difficult decision but had to cut the WEC round, and the World Sidecar and TTXGP races that were meant to run alongside it, or be in breach of some sort of order enforced by little men with clip-boards who have hi-vis jackets and no friends.

“We were so keen to get Donington Park back up and running that we initially over-subscribed to racing events in relation to the noise restrictions in place,” said chairman Kevin Wheatcroft. “Although it’s a tough decision to reduce the calendar, we know it is right for the venue. We still have some very exciting events to look forward to and we can press ahead with the improvements at the park ahead of what is set to be another exciting year in 2012."
