EUROPEAN SUPERSTOCK | REA ON BRANDS FRONT ROW

StoneBaker Racing’s Gino Rea (and that’s pronounced reahhh, not Ray, as Fred took great pains to point out this evening) has stuck is Stonebaker Yamaha on the provisional front row at Brands this afternnon.

This morning, team rider Dan Linfoot took the honours lapping the 2.3-mile Kent circuit in a time of one minute 33.343 seconds. This was eight-tenths of a second shy of the pace set by Patrick Vostarek (Honda) who topped the scoreboard with a time of one minute 32.481 seconds.

The pace of competition is so fierce in this series that although team-mate Gino Rea was just over two-tenths of a second slower than Dan with a time of one minute 33.566 seconds, he finished the session five places behind Linfoot in 11th.

During this afternoon’s opening timed qualifying session, the accolade of top British runner switched to Rea. Partially resolving the problems he experienced with grip aboard his StoneBaker Yamaha this morning, Gino lapped at one minute 32.054 seconds to take over third place on the scoreboard.

Frenchman Loris Baz (Yamaha) now headed the standings with a time of one minute 31.628 seconds. Although Linfoot slipped to seventh, with a lap timed at one minute 32.735 seconds, he has conserved his tyre supply for tomorrow’s second session.

Gino Rea (3rd - 1:32.054)
"I’m happy. We’ve got the front tyre working really well although the back keeps spinning up out of the corners. I’m lapping consistently in the low 1:32’s. I’m only four-tenths of a second away from pole so if we can get the back working and it doesn’t rain tomorrow we’ll be up there with the front two. If it does rain, I’m third for the race on Sunday."
Dan Linfoot (7th 1:32.735)
"This is my first time on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit in over two years - since October ‘05. Thankfully though, the layout is still the same. I’m running in too hot in a few corners, I can hit the apexes but only just. I’m over a second away from pole but if we run a fresh tyre tomorrow we should be able to improve on that."
