JAMES MCBRIDE'S TT DIARY: PART TWO

Monday night practice

Much more confident for tonight however, it was a year ago to the day when I had my big crash so the superstitions still linger!

I started the evening on the 600 again and the main objective was to achieve fuel consumption over two laps with our modifications. In fact it went very well, there was a lot of traffic from the start and I covered my two laps successfully with fuel remaining and both at over 116mph so very happy with that.

I jumped on the already prepared R1 for lap three and it felt alien straightaway! It was wooden until Union Mills and wheelied at every bump. It took me about half a lap to dial in which is around 20 miles and it never felt fitting the whole time.

Analysis was the purpose here and as I write this the boys are still at the chassis giving it the love it needs for my comfort and hopefully speed. Though I was happy to gain a lap on her as this was the machine I tumbled off of last year, except, all has been replaced bar the swingarm, front calipers and fuel tank. The donor was 155-01 from AMA. She now has a new identity.

The one lap done on the R1 is almost unmentionable yet I suppose 114mph is worth banking for my qualification at least.

Really looking forward to tonight now, I hope to head out on the big-bike first and if the changes from the NW200 chassis set-up to today’s adjustments are right then I’m sure I’ll be able to enjoy it from the off this time out.
