Tim Reeves and Gregory Cluze had two great wins in Oschersleben, Germany, to win the first FIM Sidecar F2 World Trophy.
The pair did not have it all their own way, though, they had to fight hard for the wins. Bike issues ruled them out of the first qualifier and the team worked hard to solve the problem and by the second qualifier all was good with the machine. They posted a time of 1’38.670 to start from pole position.
Race one saw Reeves make a reasonable start, by the first corner, he and Cluze slotted into fourth place just behind another British team, Gordon Shand and Phil Hyde. At the front though it was Austrian Michael Grabmuller and Sophia Kirchhofer who got the holeshot.
Reeves and Cluze fought hard to get up into second place and give chase to Grabuller and Kirchhofer. It was a hard race for Reeves and Cluze, they caught and passed Grabmuller but they could not break free from fast Austrian. By the end of the race, Reeves and Cluze took the chequred flag for the win, with Grabmuller and Kirchhofer second, and Shand and Hyde third.
The second race saw Reeves and Cluze make a bad start; they were way back in eleventh place. Again it was Grabmuller and Kirchhofer who made the good start with Shand and Hyde second, again Reeves and Cluze fought hard throughout the race to get up to second, and again they had a big fight to get passed Grabmuller and Kirchhofer to lead the race.
When Reeves passed for the lead Grabmuller kept getting back at Reeves, but was losing time on left hand corners, this was enough to let Reeves and Cluze get a small lead. It was spitting with rain all through the race but not enough to hinder the sidecar teams, but on lap 10 of 12 the red flags came out due to the rain getting heavier at one part of the circuit. Reeves and Cluze were to take the win with Grabmuller and Kirchhofer second and once again Shand and Hyde third.
