Suzuka Eight-Hours: Schwantz 'lapping at 1995 500cc pace'

500cc Grand Prix legend Kevin Schwantz will take part in tomorrow's final top ten trial to determine the final grid positions for the 2013 Suzuka Eight-Hours after his Kagayama Suzuki team made the grade.

Although Schwantz himself is a couple of seconds off the pace, the 49-year-old said he is lapping at almost exactly the same speed as he did in 500cc qualifying in 1995 on the RGV500.

:I came to Japan last month and did two days of testing with Yukio and Noriyuki and they have made a good bike that is well set-up. I feel comfortable on it, although it's the first time I've done a Suzuka Eight-Hour timed qualifying for 21 years, but I finally improved my time and made my best lap in the second session," said the Texan.

"Surprisingly, this time is much the same as my last 500cc qualifying time at the Suzuka GP in 1995 and I am looking forward to tomorrow's Top-10 Trial and also Sunday's race."
