Tyco Suzuki’s MCE British Superbike challenger Josh Waters had a successful second test with his Suzuki Yoshimura team in preparation for the Suzuka Eight-Hours race, but this time tyre wear was the priority and his crew spent most of the two days on used tyres.
Waters, who’s in a three-man team with Suzuki’s MotoGP test rider Randy De Puniet and Takuya Tsuda, still didn’t have as much dry track time as he wanted, as it rained for some of the two-day session. This was a similar problem that Waters experienced during the first test for the endurance event last week.
Waters did improve on his pace, especially on his second flying lap - on the very first day. The Aussie is confident that when it comes to race day the tyres won’t be slowing him down, and cant wait to get back on his Yoshimura backed Suzuki for the event in a few weeks time.
“The second test was alright. It still rained on one of the days – but only in the afternoon, but I did better during this testing session,” said Waters, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening.
“The teams were worried about the bike on used tyres, so we were mostly looking at tyre life, and how it would feel on the bike using tyres that have already had 45 minutes out on the track. My lap times did improve, my second flying lap on the first day was my fastest.
"But I didn’t really get much time to use new tyres during the test. Everyone knows roughly what the pace will be during the races, so even though I didn’t manage to get much time on new tyres I am confident that we have the pace to go fast. I know the bike will be good, and I am feeling good for the race – I just can’t wait to get back on the bike and finally get started.”
