Alvaro Bautista ensured his Aruba.it Ducati team its perfect homecoming by completing yet another victory in the final race of the Misano WorldSBK weekend, making it his fourth clean sweep of the 2023 season.
While his success in the Superpole Race came with a side of good fortune, Bautista completed Ducati's home round - its first since becoming WorldSBK champions again - exactly as he started it with dominant wins in the full-length encounters bookending his weekend's work.
Having been run close for glory by Toprak Razgatlioglu earlier in the day, Bautista found himself staring at the rear of the Pata Yamaha at the start of Race 2 once again, the Turk getting the jump on the run to the first turn.
However, after holding firm to lead across the line, Razgatlioglu's victory aspirations were soon snuffed out when he was out-dragged by Bautista on the run down to Turn 8. Seemingly unsettled by the pass, Razgatlioglu's attempt to immediately respond instead drew mistakes and with it a one second gap to his rival by the end of lap two.
From here Bautista took control, multiplying his advantage out front over the remaining 19 laps, taking the flag more than eight seconds clear of the opposition.
A 14th win from 15 races to further cement his solid state at the top of the WorldSBK standings, Bautista's advantage now stands at 86 points, with attentions surely turning now to whether he can break the record for most wins in a single season.
With hopes of victory dashed, Razgatlioglu settled into a fight for second with Michael Ruben Rinaldi. Swapping position more than once, their dice was decided with six laps to go when Rinaldi got his braking wrong into Turn 1 and clipped the rear-wheel of the Yamaha ahead to bowl out of the race.
Releasing Razgatlioglu to complete a lonely second, Rinaldi's DNF brought a sour end to an otherwise encouraging weekend, even if his mood won't have been improved by seeing Ducati privateer - and rival for his 2024 seat - Axel Bassani inherit third for his first podium of the year.
Jonathan Rea concluded an unusually low-key weekend with a fourth place finish, lifting the mood of KRT after Alex Lowes crashed out of a top six position.
Xavi Vierge collected his second top five finish of the year on the sole remaining HRC Honda following Iker Lecuona's withdrawal, with Andrea Locatelli coming home in sixth place on the second of the factory Yamahas.
After crashing out of Race 1 and the Superpole Race, Danilo Petrucci got a much needed result on the board in Race 2 with his run to seventh, ahead of top BMW rider Garrett Gerloff, Philipp Oettl on the Go Eleven Ducati and Remy Gardner, the GYTR GRT Yamaha rider holding off team-mate Dominique Aegerter to complete the top ten.
In a race of attrition, only 16 riders saw the flag, ensuring points for Loris Baz, Tom Sykes, Scott Redding and Hafizh Syahrin in 12th down to 15th.
