Portimao WorldSSP, Race One Results | Yari Montella storms to victory over Huertas

Gold and Goose

Yari Montella claims victory over Championship leader, Adrian Huertas, in the opening World Supersport race at Portimao.

After Adrian Huertas qualified on pole yesterday it appeared that his World Supersport Championship lead was set to extend. However, the Spaniard did not get it all his way.

It was not the Aruba.it Ducati Supersport machine that won, but rather the Barni Spark Supersport Ducati that took the chequered flag. Yari Montella won the opening Supersport race of the weekend by three seconds.

Huertas may not have won the race but it was damage limitation from the Championship leader. The Spaniard only lost five points today as he finished second.

Stefano Manzi completed the podium as he took his Yamaha R6 to third place. The Italian was racing Huertas at one point but ended up being 7 seconds behind at the chequered flag.

Taking fourth place was Jorge Navarro on the Orelac Racing Ducati. Two seconds further back was the first MV Agusta of Federico Caricasulo in fifth place.

French rider, Valentin Debise, finished just outside the top five as he finished in sixth. Marcel Schroetter took his MV Agusta to a seventh-place finish, with Lucas Mahias in eighth.

Rounding out the top ten was Ten Kate rider, Glenn van Straalen, in ninth place and Niki Tuuli in tenth.

John McPhee managed to collect one point as he finished 15th. However, Tom Booth-Amos crashed early on and only finished in 23rd.
