David Johnson crashed in the Isle of Man TT Superbike Race 1 last Sunday, and was taken to hospital afterwards. He has now given an update on his condition and described what happened in the crash.

Johnson, racing for the Platinum Club Racing Kawasaki team - run by Lee Hardy Racing - in the Superbike and Superstock classes at this year’s Isle of Man TT, crashed at the K Tree corner during Sunday’s Superbike TT.

In a social media post, Johnson said he had a tank slapper at the K Tree that he'd "never experienced before".

He said he slid down the middle of the road, and "luckily only fractured my collarbone". He did confirm, though, that his TT is over for this year.

Johnson's full post reads:

"Superbike TT…. Everything was going well. Was happy with the pace and feel with the bike and was comfortably running in the 131mph laps which is definitely the best start to the TT race week ever for me.

"I had a brake fade issue just before the final lap so I backed the pace off to bring her home in a comfortable 8th. Unfortunately I had a very strange tank slapper at K Tree which I’ve never experienced before and I couldn’t recover it.

"I managed to roll off the side of the bike and go straight down the middle of the road. I’m battered and bruised and luckily only fractured my collarbone. Thanks for all the messages and calls. I’ll be back in the paddock tomorrow but that’s unfortunately the end of TT 2024 for me."

The Superbike TT was won by Peter Hickman after a four-way battle between himself, Dean Harrison, Davey Todd, and Michael Dunlop.

Dunlop led by over 20 seconds before the second pit stop, by which time he had towed Harrison up to third place between Todd and Hickman. Issues for Todd in the pit stop and a visor problem for Dunlop elevated Harrison to the lead with two laps to go, but without Dunlop’s tow he didn’t have the pace to keep Hickman or Todd behind, Hickman taking his 14th TT win.
