Joan Mir discusses 'unexpected problems' with Honda's new engine

Gold and Goose

Honda may have a new engine in Austria. However, it is not working as the Japanese manufacturer expected.

After the Sprint Race on Saturday Repsol Honda rider, Joan Mir explained that the new Honda engine is not working as expected.

In the Sprint Race, both Honda riders finished outside of the points with Mir in 19th and his teammate, Luca Marini in 17th place.

After the Sprint, Mir discussed the new engines and the 'unexpected problems' that Honda is having.

“Honestly we are having unexpected problems with this engine,” Mir said. “We are trying to put everything together to give the maximum.

"In qualifying I was not able to feel good to make a lap time. But in the sprint, I was able to be quite fast and the end of the race. I had a long lap so that was a problem. But, at the end, the lap times were not bad so I’m happy about it.”

Honda has struggled all season and the development that their riders have been expecting is taking longer than they would like.

The top Honda rider in the Championship is Johann Zarco in 18th place with 14 points. Mir is in 19th, just one point behind Zarco. Then Takaaki Nakagami is in 20th with 11 points and Luca Marini in 24th with one single point.
