Toprak Razgatlioglu leads the way in treacherous conditions in Free Practice One at Estoril.
Estoril returned to the World Superbike calendar for the penultimate race of the 2024 season. On Friday morning the World Superbike riders were greeted by a thick layer of fog and treacherous track conditions.
Toprak Razgatlioglu could win the 2024 World Superbike Championship at Estoril and has started his weekend in a perfect way. Whilst his rivals were crashing in the difficult conditions the Turkish rider stayed on his BMW and ended the session in first place.
In second place was the Barni Spark Racing Team rider Danilo Petrucci. The Italian rider had a similar session to Razgatlioglu as he managed to stay on his Ducati and chipped away at his lap time.
Three British riders completed the top five in Free Practice One. However, all three of the British riders ended their session in the gravel. Alex Lowes put his Kawasaki into third place on the timesheets as the top Kawasaki rider.
Tarran Mackenzie started his weekend off in brilliant form as he ended Free Practice One in fourth place. Then in fifth place was the six-time World Superbike Champion, Jonathan Rea.
The Aruba.it Racing - Ducati riders ended the session in sixth and seventh places. Alvaro Bautista was the top Aruba.it Racing - Ducati rider as he ended the morning in sixth place. In seventh was his teammate, Nicolo Bulega, who crashed during the session.
Andrea Locatelli also crashed in the wet conditions as he ended the session in eighth place. The Italian was one of the first riders to fall victim to the difficult conditions at Estoril.
In ninth place was Michael Ruben Rinaldi on the Team Motocorsa Racing Ducati. Completing the top ten was Xavi Vierge in tenth place on the Team HRC machine.
Three British riders ended the session outside of the top ten as Scott Redding finished in 13th, Bradley Ray was in 15th and Sam Lowes was in 17th.
