Toprak Razgatlioglu failed to set a lap time as his title rival, Nicolo Bulega, led the way once again.

Nicolo Bulega's domination continued at Portimao. After topping every session at Phillip Island, the Italian ended Free Practice One in Portugal on top of the timesheets.

Alvaro Bautista was 0.019 seconds behind his teammate as he ended the morning in second place. The Aruba.it Racing - Ducati squad got off to the perfect start in Portimao.

The top non-Ducati rider was Axel Bassani in third place with the bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team. The Italian rider was less than a tenth behind Bulega's best time and exceeded his expectations after the test two weeks ago.

The top BMW rider was not Toprak Razgatlioglu, but instead, it was Michael van der Mark. The Dutch rider ended Free Practice One in fourth place.

Completing the top five was the World Superbike Rookie, Yari Montella. The Italian showed his potential in Phillip Island and has carried over his strong form to Portimao.

Andrea Iannone just missed out on a spot in the top five as he ended the morning in sixth place. It took a while for the Italian to emerge from the pits, but he was on the pace instantly.

The second bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team rider, Alex Lowes, was also inside the top ten Free Practice One. The British rider ended the opening session in seventh place and was just over 0.2 seconds slower than Bulega.

Danilo Petrucci was the fifth Ducati rider inside the top ten as he ended Free Practice One in eighth place.

The top Honda was Xavi Vierge, who managed to drag his Honda CBR1000RR-R into ninth place.

Rounding out the top ten was Sam Lowes with the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team. The British rider was the sixth Ducati rider to finish inside the top ten.

British riders Scott Redding, Tarran Mackenzie and Ryan Vickers missed out on the top ten but did feature in the top 15. Redding was in 11th, Mackenzie ended up in 14th, and Vickers finished in 15th.
