Sam Lowes claimed his first World Superbike pole position in a hectic Superpole session at the TT Circuit Assen.
After the World Superbike Practice sessions on Friday, it looked like the Aruba.it Racing - Ducati team would dominate at Assen. However, Sam Lowes took his first World Superbike pole position on the Ducati Panigale V4 R.
Joining him on the front row will be the factory Ducati rider and World Superbike Championship leader, Nicolo Bulega. The Italian was 0.164 seconds behind Lowes's best lap time and will start from the middle of the front row.
Toprak Razgatlioglu will start from the back of the front row after qualifying in third place. The Turkish rider and the BMW were pushing hard during Superpole but did not have the consistency of the Ducati.
The bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team will head the second row as Axel Bassani qualified in fourth place. The Italian rider was 0.303 seconds off of the pole position lap time, but has had a promising weekend so far.
Alvaro Bautista has still not been able to out qualify his teammate, Bulega. The two-time World Superbike Champion will start from the middle of the second row in fifth place.
The top Yamaha rider was Andrea Locatelli, who qualified in sixth place on the Pata Maxus Yamaha R1. The Italian has previous form at Assen and will be in the podium fight during the races.
Danilo Petrucci will start from the head of the third row of the grid as he qualified in seventh place on the Barni Spark Ducati.
Remy Gardner has not had a podium since the Dutch World Superbike round last season. The Australian has qualified in eighth place on the GYTR GRT Yamaha R1.
At the rear of the third row is the second Lowes brother as Alex Lowes qualified in ninth place.
Completing the top ten was Andrea Iannone on the Team Pata GoEleven Ducati. However, after he chequered flag he had a massive crash and destroyed his Panigale V4 R.
