David Almansa put himself in the frame for pole position after successfully breaking the Motorland Aragon Moto3 lap record during Free Practice 2 for the Aragon Moto3.
The Leopard Racing rider became the first rider to break the 1m 57secs barrier as he topped the Saturday morning session, his effort of 1m 56.922secs enough to put a tenth between himself and second place man Maximo Quiles.
Rookie hotshot Quiles had impressed out of the box by first breaking Deniz Öncü's two-year old marker early on, the CFMoto Aspar making up for lost time after crashing out of Friday Practice and consigning himself to Q1 later this morning.
However, Almansa leapt to the top of the timesheets with his final effort in a session that saw Honda unusually hold the advantage over rivals KTM.
Indeed, behind Quiles, Luca Lunetta and Adrian Fernandez showed well for the Japanese manufacturer in third and fourth, the pair seeing off Moto3 points leader José Antonio Rueda in fifth and David Munoz - who suffered a run-off - in sixth.
