'I didn't want to risk too much' - Leon Haslam reflects on his Friday at Oulton Park

Leon Haslam topped the British Superbike timesheets in Friday's Pre-Qualifying session at a wet Oulton Park.

The main story from the Friday British Superbike running at Oulton Park was the torrential rain that played havoc with the schedule across the opening day.

However, despite the rain, the British Superbike riders were able to get three sessions in throughout Friday with two Free Practice sessions, which were topped by Storm Stacey, and a Pre-Qualifying session, in which Leon Haslam was the fastest.

The 2018 British Superbike Champion set the fastest lap of the day in the final session, and splashed his way to the top of the timesheets on his Moto Rapido Ducati Racing machine.

After the day's track action, Haslam admitted that he spent most of the day searching for the setup and did not risk too much on his way to his fastest lap.

"It was a very positive day, with P1," Haslam told British Superbikes at the end of Friday's track action.

"I was not expecting or pushing for that, but it was nice to be P1. We were trying to get a wet setup, obviously, with the conditions, and the wind and rain made it quite difficult.

"I did not want to risk too much. I spent most of the session trying to get a good feeling with the bike and getting the engine brake setup.

"We had a little push at the end, and ended up P1, so a big, big credit to the team and we will see what tomorrow brings."
