Michael Dunlop awarded major Irish prize for third time

Isle of Man TT

Michael Dunlop has been awarded the top prize at the Irish Motorcycle Awards for the third year.

Dunlop was awarded the trophy named after his famous uncle, Joey Dunlop, last Sunday (18 January) in Belfast, as he was named Irish Motorcyclist of the Year for 2025.

The award came after a landmark season for Dunlop, who extended his win tally at the Isle of Man TT to 33, following a 2024 event that saw him become the first rider to surpass the aforementioned Joey Dunlop’s 26 victories.

Dunlop won four races at the 2025 TT, sweeping both the Supertwin and Supersport classes.

This came after a North West 200 event that saw Dunlop win for the first time in nine years, ultimately taking victories in the Supersport, Superbike, and Superstock categories as he adapted to the new machinery he rode last year from BMW in the 1,000cc classes and Ducati in the Supersport class.

Other winners include Rea, Irwin, Todd

Dunlop, of course, was not the only winner at the Irish Motorcycle Awards last weekend, with several other big names in the sport won prizes.

These included Dunlop’s road racing rival Davey Todd, who won the King of the Roads award after his own successes at the North West 200 and Isle of Man TT last year, as well as a Macau Grand Prix win.

Jonathan Rea was also given a Special Recognition Award following his retirement from full-time racing at the end of the WorldSBK season, while Rhys Irwin won Circuit Racer of the Year for UK circuits for his title win in the British Supersport Championship.

Former British Talent Cup winner and 2026 Moto3 World Championship rookie Casey O’Gorman won the Young Rider of the Year award after a season that saw him make his debut on the world stage as a replacement rider at IntactGP; and Team 109 took the Team of the Year prize after winning the Supersport 300 World Championship with Spanish rider Benat Fernandez.
