Jorge Martin responds to Yamaha MotoGP rumours: “I want to focus on Aprilia”

Gold and Goose

Jorge Martin says his focus is on Aprilia amid reports linking him with Yamaha for the 2027 MotoGP season.

Motorsport.com reported that Martin was close to signing with Yamaha for the 2027 MotoGP season during last week’s Sepang Shakedown test. It followed a report from the same publication saying that Fabio Quartararo had already signed with Honda for next year.

Quartararo has since denied that he has signed anything yet for 2027, but did confirm that he is in talks with teams other than Yamaha and that Honda is among those.

Martin himself has shrugged off the rumours, speaking at the Sepang MotoGP test on Tuesday (3 February). The Spaniard isn’t riding there after undergoing surgery in December on lingering injuries from his disastrous 2025 season, but is present in Malaysia to keep an eye on Aprilia’s progress and to be ready for the MotoGP season launch later this week (6–7 February).

“It’s funny how early the rumours are coming out,” Martin told MotoGP.com during its After the Flag show on the first day of the Sepang test.

“As a fan, I remember when I was not in MotoGP I was always trying to analyse which rider was going to move to another bike.

“But what I can say is that if I’m here in this test it’s because I really want to focus on Aprilia, I really want to focus on the 2026 season and help the project to develop a bit better.

“For sure, I can say that part of my team is working on my future. We will see what’s happening.”

Martin added that he doesn’t have a date in mind for the conclusion of his 2027 negotiations.

“I don’t really mind,” he said when asked if he has a deadline.

“I think the market is moving, people [are] moving really fast, so we will see what happens in the next weeks.”
