Nicolo Bulega’s pole-to-win Race 1 performance at the Australian WorldSBK was “incredible”, in his own opinion.
Bulega topped every session at the WorldSBK test on Monday and Tuesday earlier this week, before setting the fastest time in all three free practice sessions this weekend and taking pole position in Superpole. The Italian followed that up with a dominant fourth straight win at Phillip Island and a fifth from seven starts in WorldSBK at the Australian venue.
“Amazing Saturday,” Bulega summarised, speaking to WorldSBK.com.
“Pole position, every session first, and win Race 1 is incredible.
“This track for me is unbelievable, every time I ride here I enjoy every lap, so it’s fantastic and when you have a good feeling with your bike in this track it’s something you cannot explain.
“So, I’m happy and I want to continue like this.”
Despite winning by almost five seconds, Bulega said the race was not an easy one for him to win.
“I had confidence, for sure, but to win a race is never easy: you have to be focused for 45 minutes, so there are some things that, in a race, can happen,” he said.
“So, you have to be always precise, always perfect, save the tyre, ride fast. So, there are a lot of things that you have to do in one time.”
Finally, Bulega added that his win in Race 1 is not necessarily indicative of the path the championship will take.
“We started very well, 25 points,” he said.
“But also last year I started with a triple but then I lost the championship, so we have to stay focused for all the rounds.”
