Thruxton BSB: Young grabs win in red-flagged Supersport race

Oxford TAG Triumph's veteran Paul Young nabbed his first British Supersport win of the year at a sodden Thruxton this afternoon, taking the lead a lap before Jack Kennedy's monster highside at Goodwood caused a red flag stoppage.

The Antipodean rider, who was one of only two riders on the hard compound wet tyre, lapped consistently to catch Kennedy and Seton Yamaha's Sam Warren with a handful of laps left to run after early leader Alastair Seeley retired with an electrical problem.

The Wee Wizard scorched away from the line and pulled away at a second a lap before he was forced to roll up pitlane and out of a certain win after only seven circuit. Smith's Triumph rider Dan Cooper took the final podium spot while Ben Wilson settled for fourth and yesterday's first-race winner Billy McConnell was fifth.

Steve Plater and Christian Iddon also crashed on the last lap. Plater is in the medical centre with suspected shoulder fractures and Kennedy has injured his back. Iddon is, apparently, OK.
