Tyco Honda's Peter Hickman scored his first ever British Superbike podium in race two at Thruxton yesterday and has said that it feels great to ride a sorted bike after years on second hand machinery.
The Lincolnshire man, who previously raced under the Ultimate Yamaha banner doing most of the behind the scenes work as well as the riding, was the surprise package of the weekend, setting a fast pace throughout practice and qualifying before running at the front in both races.
“These races have been mega for me, especially taking second place in the second race. I really don’t know what to say. Having a bike like this after struggling over the years with bikes that have not been up to it," said Hickman.
"Now I have a bike that is capable of winning races and I am really enjoying riding it. I was quick in qualifying, running on race tyres and was comfortable when the rains came. We are just starting now – there is much more to come.”
