Add in the high profile events which the Trophy gives its riders access to and the deal becomes even more attractive. Two rounds of the Trophy will support the British round of MotoGP on the 21st-22nd June. Wild card rides in the GSX-R 750 Cup supporting World Superbike at Brands Hatch on 3rd August and Donington Park on the 7th September will also be available for the series leader.

Finally there is the grand prize of racing the Rizla Suzuki British Superbike at Mallory Park for the Race of the Year for the overall winner of the GSX-R Trophy. The Championship winner will pick up a GSX-R1000 and the highest placed under 25-year old will win a GSX-R600, there is also the Express Insurance TOP GUN cash award for the highest ranked novice in the championship.

Dave Luscombe of the ACU said: “The response to the GSX-R Trophy has been immense. It is also good to see riders from last year returning, I think that shows we provided them with an exceptional championship which they feel is worth taking part in again. As for new riders we are into double figures with new signings so the championship is gathering momentum.”

So far the youngest rider to sign up is Joe Moore, a 16-year old student from Sheffield who only started racing in 2007 and won the New Era Formula 125 Novice Championship. He is using the GSX-R Trophy to gain experience on bigger machinery.

On the flip side the oldest rider to sign up is 46-year old Kim Melville, who was impressed with the format of the GSX-R trophy in 2007 and signed up for the fun and excitement of the 2008 season.
