Steve Plater of AIM Yamaha will be competing within the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship this weekend at Snetterton for the fifth round of the championship and for the remainder of the season.
Plater returns to the British paddock after his road racing success where in addition to a Superbike win at the North West 200 he was only off the podium once out of four races followed by another win in one of the Junior Supersport races at the TT. Now he can concentrate more on his British Championship of which the team and rider feel the Supersport championship is now the more suitable option.
Plater said: “The team and I have talked previously about entering the Supersport championship, but I wanted to stay in superbike until at least the North West 200 and the TT. I wanted to stay on it and I believe it would have made a difference if I had moved off the Superbike.”
Already this is looking to be a successful decision, after consistently being within the top five through Friday's practice Plater has undoubtedly caused a stir within the championship by taking second within the first qualifying session on Saturday morning.
