Snetterton BSB: Brookes to try new engine spec

Relentless Suzuki's Josh Brookes will try a new engine spec with a flatter torque curve at this weekend's Snetterton British Superbike round following a successful test at Kirkistown on Monday which saw him back-to-back a pair of GSX-R1000s.

The likeable Aussie identified an area where he believes he can find the half-second or so he needs to start building much-needed podium credits and although he isn't over-confident he has found all the answers, Brookes sounds a happier rider.

"We didn't change the bike setup at all at Knockhill, save for lighter springs in the wet, and I noticed that coming out of the hairpin, I wasn't gaining a lot on the guy in front," said Brookes, speaking to bikesportnews.com this morning.

"So in the test on Monday, we tried a different engine spec and it seemed to be a little better. I'm not saying it's going to make a massive difference but I think it should help us a little.

"I think the base setup of the bike is good because we keep coming back to it, or something very close. I need to find that half-second as it means the difference between a podium and not a lot of the time."
