Snetterton BSB: Irwin takes debut win in double redflag nightmare

MWR's Glenn Irwin finally took the win in the Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship at the new Snetterton circuit this afternoon, surviving two red flags and the battle with second place Connor Behan of Kawasaki's Team Green as championship leader Keith Farmer only managed seventh after a crash.

It was Irwin, Farmer and Behan who were the race win contenders for the first six laps until the championship leader crashed out of the race. The race was then red flagged due to Tony Coombs of MSS Colchester Kawasaki crashing out, injuries unknown.

Irwin and Behan led the way again into the first lap for the five lap restart with Jake Newstead of Team Tinklers running strong in third. Behan took the lead before the end of the first lap but Irwin was also close behind.  AP Kawasaki's Freddie Russo, James East of East Racing and Deane Brown of Colin Appleyard/Macadam Racing were wheel to wheel from fourth to sixth as Farmer who was able to rejoin had worked his way up through the pack to 7th.

Not long after Irwin regained the lead and defended the further attacks of Behan, the race was red flagged for the second time giving the Irwin his debut win, Behan his highest finish of the season so far and Newstead his first podium of the year as Farmer managed to pick up some valuable points towards his championship.

Rounding off the top 10 was Tom Fisher of Kawasaki Team Green, Grant Whitaker of HWW Tyrewarmers and Nally Racing's Cody Nally.
